about

Glamour Hammer channels the ethereal dream pop universe of Kirsten Knick in his new remix of her track 'Life's a Placebo'

Glamour Hammer is the nom de plum of Swedish-based producer, songwriter and vocalist Adam Jonsson. In the comfort of his home studio, Glamour Hammer swings back and forth between creating dance-oriented disco house and jazz-infused dream pop with a sense of escapism and tongue-in-cheek attitude while always aspiring for a sense of timelessness and analogue feel. Drawing inspiration from a multitude of genres the most influential are 1970s-80s Funk, Disco, boggie, Classic rock, Latin rhythms and Afropop.

Now, Glamour Hammer steps into the otherworldly and luminous universe of Brooklyn-based dream pop artist Kirsten Knick, and delivers a new remix of her track 'Life's a Placebo'.

If a soundtrack could define Knick’s story, then creditable names including Kate Bush, Brian Eno, Neil Young and Stevie Knicks would appear in the line-up. Her latest Album ‘Close Your Eyes’ sees Kirsten exhibit her colourfully crafted sound palette. 'Life is a Placebo' was one of the most anticipated singles leading up to the full-lengther, with 12 tracks following the lyrical themes of lucid dreams, forgotten nightmares, past mistakes and future possibilities.

Where the original track warped us up in dreamy ambient synths and Kirsten’s warming vocals exploring loss in its entirety, the new remix dives into the gleaming and soft soundscapes of 70's disco and funk that we have come to associate with Glamour Hammer. Talking about the remix he tells us: "This song had me at an instant. Lovely production and Kirstens delivers every word with such grace. It’s a really good song and I’m very happy that she let me give it a go. Fun and easy to remix. It has a very nice and simple melody that allows a producer to go in many directions and in my case it ended with groovy disco strings and latin rhythms!"

While Kirsten Knick adds: "Life’s a placebo remix is a disco take on the apathetic dream pop style. If you were to marry the track with studio 54 and the year 2020, this would be their child."

lyrics

Another one I let go
For myself I’m alone
Pour myself an empty glass
Like the moon I feel cut in half
And I wish I cared
I wish I cared

They said I couldn’t feel
In defense I blamed the pills
Thought I saw myself drawn to you
Then I lost a love that’s true
And I wish I cared
I wish I cared

Maybe I can’t feel
In my defense nothing’s real
Thought I saw myself drawn to you
Thought I found a love that’s true
And I wish I

And I wish I
And I wish I
And I wish I

And I wish I cared

I wish I cared
I wish I cared
I wish I cared
